Affiliate Disclosure

How affiliate links work on this site and what that means for our recommendations.

Last updated: April 2026

What are affiliate links?

Some links on FrenchDoors.com are “affiliate links.” Here’s what that means in plain English: if you click one of those links and then make a purchase from the retailer or brand we’ve linked to, we may earn a small commission. The price you pay is exactly the same whether or not you use our link — the commission comes from the seller, not from you.

This is a common way that editorial websites earn revenue. It allows us to publish free, independent research guides without charging readers or hiding content behind a paywall.

Which brands and programs we work with

We currently participate in affiliate programs with the following:

  • Amazon Associates — for hardware, tools, smart locks, and general home improvement products
  • Home Depot — for door units, hardware, installation tools, and related products
  • Pella — for Pella door products and accessories
  • Andersen Windows & Doors — for Andersen door products
  • Marvin — for Marvin door products
  • Milgard — for Milgard patio and sliding door products
  • JELD-WEN — for JELD-WEN door products
  • Smart lock brands including Schlage, Kwikset, and August (where applicable)

This list will grow as we add more product coverage to the site. If we add a new affiliate partner, we will update this page to reflect it.

How this affects our recommendations

It doesn’t — and that’s a commitment we take seriously.

Our editorial recommendations are based on product quality, suitability for Orange County homes and climates, value for money, and what we genuinely believe will serve our readers well. We do not write favorable reviews in exchange for affiliate arrangements, and commission rates do not influence which products we recommend or how we evaluate them.

If we link to a product, it’s because we think it’s worth considering — not because we earn a higher commission on it. If we think a product is overpriced, poorly made, or unsuitable for OC homes, we’ll say so, even if we have an affiliate relationship with the brand.

Where affiliate links appear on a page, we aim to make that clear either with an inline disclosure note or by including this disclosure in the footer of relevant pages. You should always assume that any link to a product retailer or brand page may be an affiliate link unless we’ve indicated otherwise.

FTC compliance

This disclosure is provided in compliance with the United States Federal Trade Commission’s guidelines on endorsements and testimonials, specifically the requirement that material connections between a reviewer and a brand — including commercial relationships — be clearly disclosed to readers.

We believe you have the right to know when we have a financial relationship with the products or companies we mention. Our commitment is to be transparent about those relationships while maintaining editorial integrity.

Contractor referral fees

Separately from product affiliate links, FrenchDoors.com earns referral fees from contractors who pay to be matched with homeowner project leads. When you submit a quote request through this Site, the contractor who receives your project information pays us a fee for that exclusive introduction.

This is how we fund the editorial research, local guides, and site infrastructure that we provide free to homeowners. Contractor referral fees do not affect the quality of our contractor verification process — we check every contractor the same way regardless of what they pay. See our Privacy Policy for details on how we handle the information you provide when requesting a quote.
